Introduction to Serging Class – What will you learn…….. 
You’ve learned to thread your serger – Now what?  What can you make?  Are you limited to just 
making clothes with a serger? 
 
Here is what you can expect from our Introduction to Serger Class: 
∙What can we make with a serger; 
∙What are some techniques that we can do with sergers – The options are endless: 
  • 4 – Thread Overlock and application of
  • Rolled hem and how to use
  • Creating a ruffle – how easy is it really? 
  • Installation of a zipper – Yep!  
  • Serging around a curve; 
  • Piecing quilt blocks; 
 
∙What would you like to learn? 
∙Discuss advantages of using a serger over a sewing machine; 

Don’t own a serger yet? A limited number of rental machines are available for anyone who would like to try one before purchasing. Please contact us to reserve a rental.

Students should bring a serger in good working order, a nylon zipper, serger thread, the machine manual, foot pedal and power cord, accessories, and basic sewing supplies. Bring a few fat quarters from your stash to experiment with! 

Your Host

Marcia Yancey has been teaching sewing and serging for the past 6 years. Newer to Iowa, her
journey started teaching at a Bernina dealership in southern Utah. What was a mere hobby
quickly became a passion for Marcia. She now lives in a tiny town here in Iowa with her two
Beagles surrounded by her beloved sewing machines.
